Chile continues to establish itself as a relevant market for the development of energy, transmission, and storage projects.

According to the Ministry of Energy’s project report as of April 2026, the sector’s pipeline confirms a clear trend: energy storage systems—particularly BESS—are no longer a future promise, but a core component enabling renewable expansion, managing grid congestion, improving system flexibility, and attracting new investment.

For investors, developers, lenders, technology providers, and energy-intensive companies, this environment creates significant opportunities, but also requires close attention to key aspects such as:

• Project contractual and financial structuring;
• Environmental and sectoral permitting;
• Grid connection, transmission, and operational constraints;
• The regulatory framework applicable to storage;
• Bankability, guarantees, O&M, and risk allocation.

As noted by Juan Ignacio Santa María, a lawyer at the firm who works directly with clients developing BESS projects in Chile and across the region, “in an increasingly competitive market, the success of these projects will depend not only on technology, but also on proper legal, regulatory, and commercial planning at early stages, as well as post-sale service capabilities that differentiate projects in the local market.”
